Britney Spears Hit with DUI Charge After Late-Night Arrest

Pop icon Britney Spears is once again making headlines—this time for all the wrong reasons. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office has officially charged the singer with one count of misdemeanor DUI following her arrest earlier this spring.

The incident unfolded on March 4 in Westlake Village, not far from Britney’s home. According to dispatch audio, officers were alerted after she was allegedly seen swerving between lanes. Police pulled her over, and she was later taken to a hospital where her blood was drawn for testing.

Sources say Britney became emotional during the booking process at the jail, breaking down in tears as the reality of the situation set in.

Prosecutors have indicated they plan to offer Britney what’s known as a “wet reckless” plea deal—a reduced charge of reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs. This option is typically reserved for first-time offenders with low blood alcohol levels, no accidents or injuries, and a willingness to seek rehabilitation. Britney is expected to hear this offer at her arraignment scheduled for May 4.

This isn’t Britney’s first brush with the law. Back in 2007, she faced misdemeanor charges after a minor hit-and-run with a parked car in Los Angeles. Those charges were eventually dropped after she compensated the vehicle’s owner, and her trial for driving without a California license ended in a mistrial.

As for the current case, Britney’s inner circle is rallying around her. Her manager has described the incident as “unfortunate and inexcusable,” but emphasized that Britney intends to comply fully with the law and take steps toward positive change. Loved ones are reportedly putting a support plan in place, with her children spending more time with her as she navigates this difficult chapter.
