Lawyers Johnny Depp speak of ‘fair’ trial against Amber Heard

Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew, the lawyers of Johnny Depp (58), believe that the lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard (36) has been ‘fair’. The two lawyers stated that on Wednesday on the talk show ‘Good Morning America’. They responded to criticism against the process. The actress’ legal team said, among other things, that Johnny won the lawsuit because the jury was biased and influenced by the many negative comments about her on social media.

“We believe the evidence speaks for itself. The jury has decided unanimously based on the facts,” Vasquez said. The lawyers also believe that the actor’s power and popularity played absolutely no role in winning the case. That is “completely incorrect,” Vasquez said.

Amber was ordered to pay $15 million in damages last week. The case revolved around an old opinion piece for The Washington Post in which she wrote about her experiences with domestic violence. Although Johnny’s name was not mentioned, the actor stated that it was clear that he was meant in the op-ed and that his career and reputation suffered as a result. The jury agreed with him. Amber has announced that she will appeal.

Johnny’s lawyers said the actor is still happy that he won. They also hinted that he may not collect the compensation. “For Mr. Depp it was never about the money,” Chew said. “It was about restoring his reputation and he did that.”
