Now more than ever an improved immune system is key to keeping fit and remaining healthy. With the Covid-19 Pandemic we’re seeing a trend of people starting to work out more, given that they can visit the gym, eating healthy, and even taking supplements.

1. The Importance of a Healthy Gut

There are studies showing the importance of a healthy gut to your immune system. There are even doctors stating that 80 percent of your immune system is in your gut. Unprocessed food rich in anti-oxidants, fiber and healthy fats contribute to a healthy gut. Eat balanced and make sure to get enough of vegetables, fruits and whole-grain foods in your food system.

2. Get Enough Sleep

Sleeping is the natural way of resetting your body. Did you know that you’re more likely to catch the common cold due to poor sleep? A UCFS study from 2019 proved that less than 6 hours sleep a day makes a person four times more likely to catch a cold. It’s a huge factor in determining if a person gets sick. A good night of sleep replenishes your cells and proteins.

3. Keep Your Stress level Low

Stress is also a huge factor determining your body’s immune system response. It has been proven that stress causes your body to produce cortisol and cytonikes. These particular bad guys can result in extra levels of inflamation, which in turn leads to a diminishing amount of white blood cells. Pick up yoga or meditation, do something else which makes you feel happy and lets you stay away from stress.

4. Take Your Vitamins

Obviously it is best to get the right vitamins with the food that you eat. But unfortunately we cannot get enough vitamins with food only. Vitamin D can drastically improve your immune system, get out in the sun to make sure you get your Vitamin D. Omega-3 and Vitamin C are also key factors contributing to a healthy immune system response.

5. Exercise!

Get enough movement in your body. Go for a walk or ride a bike. To get the bodily functions operating and improving your cardiovascular system, exercise is very important. Don’t overdo it thoufh, start off slowly and pick it up once your body has accustomed to exercising.
